27 August 2013 — bonus post

The special Carpe Diem challenge was to write a haiku inspired by and distilling down the essence of a longer poem. The poem we were given is:

Our sovereign, a god,
has made his Imperial City,
Out of the stretch of swamps,
Where chestnut horses sank
To their bellies.
— Otomo Miyuki [this is missing an accent mark, but                            I don’t know how to get it in]

My distilled haiku:

beneath the soil
the bones of horses
still dream of war
