looming shadow king
ghost on the horizon
Mount Rainier lurks

— Today’s inspiration post was about Mount Fuji. I have no real experience of it, so I am inspired to write about Mount Rainier, which I see all the time here in Seattle. It is so big when you see it that it doesn’t even look real.

  1. Where I lived, Mount Adams would have been the inspiration, standing as it did at the western end of the Yakima Valley.
But St. Helens, before the eruption, was the American Fuji.
Your “shadow king” line, by the way, reminds me of the setting sun there — both Adams and Rainier cast their sunset shadows long in our direction.

  2. Some day …. some day ….
As a teen I wanted to move to the Northwest — never happened — but some day I will see those mountains. Have to …. [sigh]

    Great haiku —

I love to hear what you have to say.
